Acquiring OMB permit when sending optical drive to other country

Did you try sending CDs or USB Drive outside the country via Fedex, UPS or other courier company? For sure you have the frustration same as mine.... That's because they are strict in implementing permit to be acquire from Optical Media Board.

Let me share my experienced in requesting the permit on how and what you need to do....

1. Prepare a letter indicating that you are requesting for a certification that your item to be send has no objection or illegal content. Add the recipient address in your letter.

2. Bring your item & the letter to Optical Media Board office. Located at #35 Scout Limbaga, Bgy.
Laging Handa, QC PH. They will inspect your hardrive (an example of item) to see if there is no content violation. It's fast and only take couple of minutes and they will give it back to you.

3. Then, they will ask you to bring the letter into receiving department to get stamped. And will give you instruction on when you can go back to claim the certification.

4. When the permit is ready, they will give you instruction before going back to the office to secure a notarized affidavit indicating that your item to be send has no objection or illegal content. I suggest you make the affidavit yourself and get notarized by lawyer to lessen the fee.

5. Submit the notarized affidavit on the day you've asked to come back and pay the 100 pesos fee to the cashier.

6. That's it and you have now the certification to be show to courier of your choice.

In my opinion, these process only gives hassle to the individual people and another waste of time. It doesn't make sense.... Why will somebody use the courier in sending illegal contents if they can do it already via online uploading. After they check your hardrive? They cannot monitor anymore if you change the file inside of your HD and replace it with an illegal content or burn another CDs. It gives pain in the ass in sending but very open in receiving. Anyway, hope these one helps anyone.
